A few nights ago I was surfing The Rodders Journal (TRJ) site and ran across this '32 s Window Coupe.
The build will loosely follow the the TRJ photo, but not be an exact replica.
The list of parts needed for the build will include the E&J Guide Headlights from the last release of the Monogram '30 Touring. The Taillights from the Revell '32 Sedan. The wheel covers from a Revell '65 Impala (a break from the Corvette wheel covers in the photo). And the steel wheels from the Revell '32 5 Window Coupe.
The most unique part going to be needed for the build will be the Archer cast resin louver decals. Archer makes a line of products for Model Railroad building. The louvers for this build will be 12" wide "O" (1/48th) Scale louvers. In 1/24th or 1/25th Scale that makes them approx 6" wide. Which are perfect for this build.
The louver decals apply like any other water slide decal. Cut, soak and apply. The louvers apply to the body under the paint. They are a 3 Dimensional cast resin louver, they are very fine in detail, painting them with a spray can would be a waste of time and effort and the detail would most likely be lost.
One of the things needed to set things right is to get the wheel covers to sit in the steel wheels. Needless to say to say they didn't! The centers of the steel wheels had to be hogged out in order for the wheel covers to sit down in them properly.
Here's the first mockup of the coupe sitting on the wheels with the wheel covers and louvers in place.
Hosted on Fotki
One of the departures from the photo of the coupe is using 6 rows of louvers instead of 5 rows.
The suspension needs to be modified to get the Coupe down where it has the look that's needed. The remainder of the build will most likely be straight from the kit with the detail needed.
Stay tuned.
