Last week while surfing the web I ran across this pic of a very cool '34 5 Window Coupe. Everything about this coupe has the "it" factor about it. This past weekend at the TAMS show I picked up an AMT '34 Coupe specifically for this build. Hosted on FotkiThe build should be a pretty simple build using parts from the kit the tires and wheels from the original issue of the Monogram '36 Couple for the rear and AMT '36 Coupe for the front. The engine will be sourced from the Revell '50 Ford Pickup with the intake from the '34 Coupe. The biggest thing will be getting the stance correct, the rest should be cake. Stay tuned.

Don't know if you need front fender inserts, but Ed Fluck was casting those and may still have some.

That sure looks good. I had a hard time seeing it clearly at the show(fuzzy eye'd ). Seeing it blow'n up on the forum makes things a little clearer. From that side view...it looks to me like the front fender kinda rolls out of the frame along the same lower body line that runs the length of the whole body. It looks like they used the inner fender with bullet type cans for the head lights and molded into that fender? This will be a very cool looking build Dave....

The Inner fender pieces are in the kit, however, they are cutout to fit around the IFS that's in the Street Rod version of the '34 kit, they have the character line molded into them as well. With this last issue of the kit it has all the trees for the Stock as well as the Street Rod versions.
Gary, I hadn't noticed the headlights until you mentioned them, they look to be of the E&J Style with the parking light/turn signal is mounted above the headlight. They can be sourced from the latest version of the '30 Touring tub from Monogram.
The more I look at the photo in a larger size then on my iPhone I find more things that are unique to the Coupe. It's pretty uncommon these days to see a Hot Rod with unsplit front wishbones. The other thing I noticed is how small the exhaust pipes are on this coupe. The taillights look to be from a '37 Ford with the actual taillight removed from standoff. Obviously, the Revelogram '37 Ford is an easy source for them.
I'm going to try and make a set of front rims that are more accurate for the build using a the outer wheel from the Revell '37 Pickup/Panel Delivery and the wide 5 center section from the AMT '36 Coupe. To the best of my knowledge they aren't available from any aftermarket source, so we'll see how they turn out.
It's pretty obvious that some type of dropped axle is used on the front end. Not sure where I'll source the axle from just yet, it will either be from a Revell '32 Ford or a Revell Model A kit. Being we have no clue what's under the rear end I plan on using a RMoM quick change with Model A springs which will require sourcing a Model A rear cross-member from a Revell or Monogram Model A kit.
Still gathering parts and pieces for the project, I'll post pics when I have them all together.

Hey Big "D"....how's this project coming along? Have you started working on those wide 5's as of yet? This is a cool car my friend...would love to see you add your magic to it and bring it to life in scale...

Still digging up parts, think I need to order some aftermarket heads from MCG. I think that's about the only thing I don't have, otherwise, it's just a question of making the time to get building. Something about now owning a horse makes building time a premium.

After spending a lot of time looking over the photo of the Coupe, I can't determine whether the Flatty has aftermarket or 'stock' heads. Beings I can't tell I've decided to go with the 'stock' heads. The flathead engine being used for the build is from the Revell '50 Ford Pickup, which has to the the best 59AB engine in scale ever produced. I went searching for a set of 'stock' heads and was surprised to find they aren't in the last 2 releases of the kit. The last 2 issues have Ardun Overhead Valve Conversions in them, but none of the 'stock' engine parts at all. The stock engine parts are only available in the first issue and the Ford Pickup 2-Pack issued back in 2000 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Ford F1/F150.
The more I look for parts, the more and better quality pieces I find. I'm thinking that I will be sourcing parts and pieces for the suspension from the Revell Orange Crate. The front and rear suspension from Orange Crate have the proper springs, mounts etc that are needed for the build.
I'm hoping to get all the parts laid out to photograph them in the next day or so, then on to building.
Stay Tuned.

All right then Dave...This is sounding better and better...I also like that you're using the words( sourced ...not "kit bashed") for getting the parts from other kits or parts Box. Another step in getting away from the idea that these are NOT TOYS that we build... OK...I'm done... ;D...Looking forward to your pics my friend...
