In my Fotki I have an album of "Future Projects" the album grows faster then I can possibly build. If I built projects from that album only I'd be kept busy for the next 10 years. Last week I picked up the latest issue of Traditional Rod & Kulture Illustrated. The back cover has a fantastic photo of a '29 Hiboy Sport Coupe. Seeing how I am a sucker for any '29 Hot Rod and having a Monogram '31 Cabriolet and a '29 Roadster Pickup cab.... well you get the idea. Hosted on FotkiThere are several differences between the Cabriolet and Sports Coupe. The biggest difference being the Sports Coupe has full frames around the door windows where the Cabriolet doesn't. There are several differences that need to be corrected to make the '31 it into a '29 all of which can be accomplished with Evergreen. There are lots of subtle things done on the 1:1 that won't make much difference in scale but there are several that will be included as well. The most noticeable things are the use of wide 5 wheels like those on the stock '36 Ford and the '32 frame pinched down to match the cowl. Stay tuned

One of the major differences between the Sports Coupe and the Cabriolet is around the window openings. The Cabriolet has an area for the slider area for the windows to be raised or lowered, the Sports Coupe doesn't have that luxury. To convert the Cabriolet to the Sports Coupe this area needs to be removed in preparation of building the full door frame. Dave, this is the project i gave the tires and wheels for, and the tires even look similar to these, but you may need to make yur own lug nuts for those wheels. I hope you r able to use them, Vance

Vance, the tires are very close to the same as the ones from the original Monogram '36 Ford. The wheels are technically the same, however they have the inner caps in place covering the wide 5 lug pattern. The AMT '36 has the wide 5 pattern, but I have yet to check and see if they are big enough to fit the tires. I know that Lyle Willits mastered a set of wide 5's for RMoM. One thing for certain that I'm going to dig out the RTV and make molds of these tires and wheels as they are to good to use and not be able to source them again in the future. As I haven't had this one on the bench in a month or so I dug it out and looked at the 1:1 photos vs the model. The one thing I noticed right away is the differences between the two when it comes to the height of the windshield and door frames. I went and reread the article, there is no mention of the roof being chopped but obviously there is something different. One of the few Model 'A' scans that I don't have is for the '30 Cabriolet, which this conversion is based off of, to get an idea of the height differences between the Sports Coupe and the Cabriolet. Comparing the '29 Sports Coupe and Cabriolet scans they are less the1/2 inch different in door height. This is what the '29 Sports Coupe looks like today: Hosted on FotkiThe rear and upper parts of the door frames have been constructed with Evergreen Styrene, .060 Square stock for the rear and .060X.080 for the upper portions. Now that I've noticed the differences in the roof height between the model and the 1:1, I'll go back and take around 2" from the height and reconfigure the top to fit the new profile.
