This kit has been around for 10+ years. This build is some where around the 8 or 9 that I have built out of this kit. The '50 pick ups were the theme of our NNL around 12 years ago. So this is the latest version on the bench. The roof is chopped around 4 inches, any other time I have chopped the '50 I have gone to the effort of putting all kinds of pie cuts in the roof to get everything to match back up. This time as you can see I split the roof from front to rear as well as side to side. This is soooooooo much easier then all the cutting that I have done in the past. The newer release of the '50 has dearched springs for the rear and a dropped axle for the front. The issue I used for this build did not have those parts. So, the rear has lowering blocks and the front has the axle mounted on top of the springs to bring the ride height down to where it needs to be. Tires and wheels are straight from the kit box. Engine wise the plan is to use 1 of the 2 Thunderbird Y-blocks from the Mysterion show car. Even though this is going to be a shop truck it is going to represent one that is well cared for so it is slated to yellow with white scallops on the hood and fenders. Updated pics soon.

So here is the latest on what was going to be a "Shop Truck". It's taken on a live of it's own and turned into more of a mild custom. The major body work has been completed, there are a couple of minor flaws to correct before paint. After seeing this mocked up and in white primer, it now has a date with Testors One Coat Lacquer White Lightning with a clear coat mixed with Pearlex White Pearl pigment. The kits tires and wheels have given way to those from the '58 Edsel. Hosted on Fotki

Well, I'm back to this build after completing the '29 Roadster Pickup. So, this is just a quick update so you can see how it looks in paint. The color is Testors One Coat Lacquer "White Lightning". Found a divot in the rear of the cab where the upper and lower cab meet. So, had to go back and fill and sand it out. Hosted on Fotki3 weeks before the Bob Paeth Portland Classic Model Car Contest, so back to the bench or at least during the commercial breaks of the Daytona 500.

Guess we should subtitle this one "Follow Your Own Advice!" This is what happens when you try to rush a paint job to get ready for a contest. Hosted on FotkiLesson Learned: Testor's One Coat Lacquer "white Lighting" should be treated as any Candy Color. You had better have a nice even base coat before applying the Lacquer, using it ONLY as a top coat before buffing out or shooting clear.

Well boys and girls we're back for the swim in the Purple Pond, none the worse for it. The bodywork that was affected by the CSC has been repaired and the base coat has been applied and has "gassed out." We are suppose to have temperatures in the high 60s low 70s this weekend so time to shoot the HoK Snowhite Pearl. I did however take a suggestion from one of the guys on the MCM Forum and added color to the wheel covers. Actually, I remembered that in the pre-paint version of the '58 Edsel Pacer the wheel covers were painted. Just so happens someone put a couple of them up for auction on eModel Cars and at around $11 shipping included, I didn't figure I could go wrong. Hosted on Fotki

Well, we're back in pearl. Shot the HoK Snowhite this afternoon. I'm not totally thrilled with the results. Above the driers side of the grille it has what looks like acne. I think it's one of those where I didn't have the paint cut properly. Oh well, just means more work sanding it out before the clear coat. Here's a shot of the bed cover. It's a mix of Evergreen V-Groove siding with .100 spacing and .080 half round. The stand up ribs will be red and the rest white pearl. Hosted on FotkiI had ran out of clear coat so I headed to the paint supply store yesterday. I told the guy behind the counter that I needed PPG Clear Coat, Hardener and Medium Reducer. He heads down the isle to get the product. Comes back, puts it in the computer and says that will be $117.46 like it was no big deal. My jaw bounced off the floor. I'm like are you sure that's correct? He says yeah, that's the price. At this point I'm like do you carry any other brands? Of course they do. So, I walked out with a quart of OMNI Clear (PPG's House brand) and hardener for $31.63. OMNI requires no reducer to spray. Even PPG's prices have gone sky high in this whacked economy. I don't know if this will be completed by the NNL or not but I'm certainly going to try.

Got closer to having this one completed but I'm running out of time. Like the '40 this is most likely the way it will go to the NNL. There have been several times this past week where it was trying to it's spaghetti impression. You know the one if you throw it and it sticks to the wall it's done. I managed to get the exhaust pipes added as I wanted and the bed cover painted and attached to the body. The grille and front bumper got attached. The door panels have been cut for the doors, but alas I'm running out of hours to get it completed. Should be ready for the PSAMA event i the second Sunday in May. Hosted on Fotki

This has been the roughest build I've been involved in for quite some time. It has fought me the entire way since the first coat of primer was applied. The 2 tone bed cover died a quick death and was replaced by the bed cover from an AMT '53 F100. But, today it cooperated as I shot 4 coats of Omni urethane clear. The interior still needs to be completed. Glass and exhaust need to be installed and a final rub out. Hosted on FotkiHopefully, it along with the pair of '32 Sedans will be completed for the Inner Club Challenge on JUne 6th.

I scrapped the idea of scratch building new interior door panels but still didn't want to use the stock '50 units either. So, with a little rework the '58 Edsel Pacer pre-paint kits panels were used along with it's seat, steering wheel and column. Hosted on FotkiHosted on FotkiAnd here's the T-Bird engine from the Mysterion in it's new home. Hosted on FotkiHopefully, there will be more photos later or better yet it will find it's way to the Shelf by the end of the day.
