A couple of months back I presented the club with a challenge of a common kit build of the AMT/Lindberg 1934 Ford Pickup. The kit can be built as anything possible from box stock to to full custom. Here's my take on the challenge, Top Chopped 3/16", bed shortened 1/2" To get the Revell '32 hood and hood sides to sit properly on the '34 cowl required a single saw cut along the rib on the bottom edge of the hood, the rib is then reattached. The modified Revell front spring. Modified front cross member to get the nose down even further Modified rear suspension to adjust the rear ride height Ride height set both front and rear. The pickup rides on the tires and wheels from the Revell '34 3 Window Coupe Snap Kit. Rear fender assembly showing the amount removed to get the '34 bed to fit between the '32 fenders In Primer, needs a bit more work on some of the glue joints Model Car Garage Offy Heads and Manifold for the Revell '32 Sedan Flathead Hosted on FotkiStay Tuned...........

Didn't get a lot accomplished on the Pickup this weekend. About all I manged to get done was to shoot some color on the Replicas & Miniatures Company of Maryland '32 Dash and Firewall. The contrast color for the build is Tamiya TS-33 Dull Red made shiny with Testors One Coat Wet Look Clear. Hosted on FotkiThere's still a bit of touch up body work that needs to be completed before the final color is applied to the truck. The Dull Red will be the color for the pin stripe to break up all the black. Stay tuned.......

Got some color on the pickup over the weekend. I'm hoping that once the bright work gets added it'll start to come together. I forgot just how poor the quality of Lindberg's plastic truly is. It's more porous then I remember it being. I don't think I've ever had plastic soak up primer and color the way this bed and cab have. I'm not sure that I'm overly excited with the color. Someone had recommended that I paint it red, I almost with I had listened to them. Hosted on FotkiStay tuned..........

Man Dave...I sure like the look and sit on this...Ya know....you can shoot primer right over the top of the black and then paint it red. I like Black...but I think a Racing red of some sort, would really look good on this...just a thought bud...

After careful consideration the cab, bed, grille surround and hood took a bath in Super Clean over the past weekend. The combination of poor quality plastic and an old can of Dupli-color primer proved to much to overcome. The parts are now as clean as they possibly can be. The surface of the cab and bed are pretty crazed. I'm hoping a round of 400 grit wet/dry will allow it to be sued to complete the build. If not, it's time for a trip to the LHS. After much work with 400 wet/dry I gave up on using the original cab and bed and went to the LHS for another Lindberg '34 Pickup kit. The newly modified cab and bed on the Revell '32 Chassis Hosted on FotkiA bit more sanding on the joints and it'll be time for primer. Stay Tuned..............

I am more then happy with the results of the new cab, bed and can of Dupli-color primer. The project is back on track to be completed prior to the February SABA meeting. The madness behind the '34 Pickup Challenge was to get the club to build a common kit and for SABA to participate in the Group Build at the IPMS Seattle Spring Show in April. Dave, it's looking great. Looking at the aftermarket heads, what were you planning on using for the Flathead motor & trans? Just curious.

Ok, never mind, I just read through the rest and it looks like your using the '32 Sedan drivetrain as well. Doh.

The dimensions are all spot on! It's too bad you're having to do it twice but I guess practice makes perfect! Lol
