A long, long time ago in a forum far, far away an event took place called the Gathering of the Outlaws. The idea behind the gathering was to build in the tradition of Billetproof, Viva Las Vegas, Lone Star Roundup and Paso Robles. Build what you see in your minds eye that you would love to drive to an event like any of those listed. The Gathering is usually a 6 month challenge build, where you push yourself and your fellow Outlaws to your limits and beyond. The finished builds are more often then not award worthy if they were ever actually entered in a show/contest, most never are as the Gathering is about the build and the fellowship not the recognition. This years Gathering starts today June 1st and ends on December 31st. This is my project for the 4th edition of the Gathering of the Outlaws over on Facebook: The Inspiration: The Primary Parts Source: The Yard Sale: Hosted on FotkiThis is where the journey begins..................

The 1st days effort for the GotO IV. I managed to get one Wide 5 Artillery wheel fabricated. The initial process took some effort, but now that I've got the process down the other 3 should be a piece of baklava. The perfect tool for the job, a piece of 400 wet/dry sandpaper wrapped around an ultra fine Shaprie. Trim the center out of the Revell Artillery wheel and finish rounding it out with the Sharpie/sandpaper. Mounted in the Revell tires from the "37 Pickup, need to find smaller tires! I like the looks of that truck and a good job on the wheels Dave. I think I remember something on this "outlaws" thing. But...can't be sure though...to many other projects going on...

The final bit of work on the Wide 5 Artillery wheels was to mount them in the wide white wall tires from the Revell '29 Pickup. The height of the rear tires is the same as the original tires from the Monogram '36 Ford. I discovered while working on the wheel conversion that the resin wheels were a bit to brittle to be carving on as needed to produce the Wide 5 Artillery for the rear, it seems the Revell Artillery wheels are the same size as the Monogram, thus the reason that all the converted wheels are white. Got a bit of work done on the bed sides. Cut 1 3/8" out of the stock bed side to produce the bobber bed side, The bobber bed side ended up being 1 3/4" A bit of prospective with the rear tire Hosted on FotkiStay tuned................

Figured it was time to get this one back on the bench otherwise there is no chance of making the deadline of December 31st at 11:59PM. The plan for the firewall was to get rid of the battery box and backdate it to the look of the '35-'36 version with the X panel on both sides. Hosted on FotkiThe access panel on the passenger side needs to be removed and the roughed in panel blended into the firewall to complete the conversion. Stay Tuned...............

One of the things with this challenge build is that the Bobber Pickups have a Caddy engine under the hood. The fun part is that there is no way a Caddy mill will fit in the '37 Ford Pickup frame without modification. The "simple" solution is to replace the "X" member with one from a source that the Caddy engine will fit in. The obvious choice is the '49 Merc that the Caddy mill came from. The '49 Merc "X" Member located where it needs to be in order for the Caddy engine to sit in the '37 Ford Pickup frame. The '49 Merc "X" member transplanted in the '37 Ford Pickup frame. I sure enjoy watching your fab work Dave. Do you have a caddy engine for this bad boy?? Indeed I do. I'm using the Caddy engine from the Revell '49 Merc. I hate the chop on that kit, so, in my book it's a parts kit.
