I have always been a fan for the '53-'56 F-100 Pickups. The one thing that I always questioned was why Ford chose to make them look so nose heavy due to the placement of the front fender openings. The goal of this build is to correct the oversight of the Ford designers and center the wheel openings in the front fenders. The drivers side marked for the cuts to be done. The vertical line on the fender opening side is the center of the wheel opening. The line on the other side is the center of the fender. The difference is .100" or about 2.5 scale inches. Passenger side fender opening removed to move the fender opening forward. Hosted on FotkiPassenger side fender opening reinstalled with .040X.100 Evergreen Styrene filler in place. Stay tuned.

Finished up the cut/move/reinstall of the wheel well openings on the '53 this morning. They were moved forward aprox .130" or just a little over 3 scale inches. In the process of cleaning up the frame the fuel tank and battery box were removed. The Battery will either be relocated to the engine compartment or the bed. The fuel will most likely end up being mounted where the spare tire was located behind the rear-end. With those modifications the fuel filler was removed from the side of the cab, a piece of .040X.188" Evergreen Styrene was added and sanded to shape. Hosted on FotkiI find it interesting what a difference in lighting can do to a kit molded in something other then white or gray styrene. The initial photos were taken under incandescent lighting, today's photos under florescent lighting. Stay tuned.

Never realized the fender openings were that far off. Do you plan to widen the wheel base also? Always thought the fenders were too wide for the wheels.

Bruce, when I get this one back on the bench I'm seriously considering centering the rear wheel openings as well as they sit quite a ways forward in the rear fenders as the fronts sat back. I've read somewhere that the same frame as in the '48-'52 F-1 pickups were used on the '53-'56 F100's that when they got to '57 was the first major change where the fender wells were centered in the fenders. Seeings how this kit has been around for more years then I can count, it wouldn't surprise me to find that the track of the front and rear axles are off as well. I know that the one Teri built almost 15 years ago was built without the steel rod through the axle. About 5 years into it's life the axle snapped because it wasn't strong enough to hold up the weight of the model. It was replaced with an axle from the Revell '50 F-1 pickup and hasn't had a problem since. This will most likely end up with the axles from the '50 F-1.
