Hi All, FYI, I just tried to go the Model Cars Mag web site. Couldn't get on, but a message poped up. It looks like they got hacked. Don't know when they will be back up.

I checked the MCM page on Facebook and according to Greg, not only has the forum been hacked but the Magazine site as well. Greg stated that the pages were hacked but it may be even worse and they may have whacked the entire site.
Greg indicates that they have changed web hosting companies and is hoping for the best. This is not the first time that the site has been hacked, which indicates that there is a serious security problem with the web host as well as the site itself. The past couple of times, photos have been stolen from the site and the hacker has then posted the photos on other sites claiming the photos are of his builds.
I hope that Greg can get control of the site, but, honestly until I know the site is secure I won't open myself to the potential problems that seem to continue to occur on MCM.

Well....it seems that a dishonest person is working the "NO GOOD" side of themselves. I don't need to be there either Dave. This forum and Face Book is plenty for me. I also go to Modelers Haven too...but that's it any more.

Man that's a shame. The first version of Sharkstrealm got hacked. We found out the hack came from Brazil but still had to rebuild it all. Ending up buying a new website template with better security control and changing hosts. Then that template didn't support Galleries so we bought another one and started all over again. Pro Boards is a much better way to go. It let's us share what we do and seems to be secure. With Photobucket, Fotki, Kodak, etc. you don't need galleries.

While too many of you know me at M C M , I've tried to convey to Mr. Hutchins as to things I have personally seen at his forum and his magazine only to be shot down like a child on each P- M . I dunno, I own a Non - Model site here on Proboards myself. I have written in vain trying to figgure out how someone can "Google " any Proboard forum as when you try, they wont . My question is , how to you advertise for new members or is this a find ya as I did , dumb luck ...... Ed Shaver

The way I understand it works is: You pay money, They advertise for you. When I got my Domain name from Godaddy they sent me several emails wanting me to sign up. I think it starts at about 85 bucks a year and goes up from there. The more money you spend the further up the ladder you go. Then when you goggle or any other search your forum shows up. At my forum I am relying on word of mouth to bring new members. The only other place I have posted the site is here and I did that with permission from Fletch. I think the problem with advertising for members is you don't know what you will get. The more members you have the more trouble it can be. Here at SABA it's not bad at all because most of the members know each other or are in the club. At my forum it's not that bad because it is really a reincarnation of another modeling site that has been around since 2002. So the members know each other and the rotten apples have been sorted from the barrel. I guess it's like anything else in America, the more money you throw at it the bigger it will get.
A couple days ago I got an email from another modeling forum here at Proboards that was just a Little Hitler type of rant. I am still not sure what the guys problem is but it is huge for sure. He needs a break from it all before the stress does serious damage to him and his forum. So it comes down to management style. Simple laid back approach will bring the same type of member and it will all turn out good. At least that's how I look at it.

Buck, I consider myself a Hands on person , however , I'm VERY libertarian as to whats said , even the "Mean sprited stuff " thats been said of me on my forum. I tried to explain to a couple of now "Former " members , " I am who I are , no mo , no less........ " they being the "Leftists that they espoused themselves to be , suddenly deleted their previous posts and deleted their accounts . Yes, I had their home e-mails . I wasn't going to try an make Nice with them . They can't handle this ole Texas redneck , well, I dunno.......... Ed Shaver

My question is , how to you advertise for new members or is this a find ya as I did , dumb luck ...... Ed Shaver Ed, the forum was started as an extension of Scale Auto Builders Ass'n here in Portland. As a way for club members to stay in contact between club meetings. The forum was left as an open forum allowing anyone to join that thought they might like to. We have just short of 50 members of which aprox 10 are members of SABA. We haven't made any effort to advertise the forum on any other forums, unless you consider my noting the forum's existence in my signature on any forum I belong to. The only other place the forum is noted is on the SABA NW web site. Beyond that it's been strictly word of mouth. As Gary noted most of us are from the Pacific NW, but we have members from across the globe, the forum is pretty low key, there is no need for any long drawn out list of rules and regulations. The members here are more then mature enough to conduct themselves in a manor that doesn't require rules of conduct. Fortunately, with our numbers we pretty much know each other, either from local shows or as friends of friends or fellow club members. When you have several thousand members you have no clue who the majority are or their intent or what secret agenda they may have. As I am sure you will find, the group is a good bunch of guys, with some serious modeling skills. You'll find that the group is more then willing to share their tricks of the trade. Fletch

Ed, thank you for your kind words, I am humbled by them. I do take model building seriously, sometimes to seriously, the up side is that it is still fun. As most everyone here can tell you I am my own worst critic. Perhaps one of these days I'll be happy with a build when it's completed.
It all still comes down to this is just a hobby, and it's suppose to be fun. Key word here suppose.
